After emigrating from Scandinavia to New York in the 1930s, Knudsen became fascinated by the energy, elegance and opportunities of his adopted city. Inspired by his experiences, he launched GRAVEL A MAN’S COLOGNE in 1957, the first true men’s fragrance created in the United States.
